Care & Maintenance

RioGuard creates an invisible protective layer that prevents minerals and contaminants from entering the microscopic pores of the glass.
Because buildup stays on the coating—not inside the glass—it wipes away easily and helps protect against long-term staining.
Your glass stays clearer for longer with noticeably less cleaning.

Why glass gets harder to clean over time

Even though glass looks smooth, it contains tiny microscopic pores that can hold onto soap, minerals and grime over time.
This is why uncoated glass can become dull and harder to clean as it gets older.

RioGuard forms a smooth, protective layer over the surface, helping reduce how much buildup settles into these pores, so your glass stays clearer for longer and easier to look after with less effort, without constant scrubbing.

Weekly clean

Once a week, give the glass a gentle clean using:

  • Mild dish soap

  • Warm water

  • A soft sponge or microfibre cloth

This refreshes the surface and removes any dried droplets, helping your glass stay bright and clear.

Avoid harsh cleaners, bleach or abrasive powders — they’re not needed.

Why small marks can temporarily appear

Because RioGuard causes water to bead, droplets can dry on the surface and leave behind small mineral marks over time.
This is completely normal and reflects the natural minerals in household water, not a failure of the coating.

These marks are not permanent and can be easily removed during your regular clean.

How water behaves on glass

Raw glass allows water to spread out into a thin sheet.
Minerals are spread out too, so marks may be less visible at first, even though buildup is bonding into the glass.

Coated glass causes water to form droplets.
Each droplet holds more concentrated minerals in one small spot, so visible marks can show sooner when droplets dry.

The benefit is that these marks:

  • sit on top of the coating

  • are much easier to remove

  • do not bond into the glass

A quick clean restores clarity.

Simple clean-up

If you notice areas where droplets have dried:

  1. Add a small amount of mild dish soap

  2. Wipe with a soft sponge or microfibre cloth

  3. Rinse with cold water

This removes residue without heavy scrubbing, returning the glass to a clean, clear look.

If you skip cleaning for a while

Life gets busy — and that’s okay.

If you notice more buildup over time, it simply means droplets have dried repeatedly.
The coating helps prevent minerals from bonding into the glass surface, so regular cleaning will refresh the glass again.

Lifestyle tips for best results

For the easiest long-term care:

  • Rinse after use

  • Quick squeegee if you can

  • Gentle weekly clean with a soft sponge or microfibre cloth

These small habits help keep surfaces fresh, reduce buildup, and maximise long-term performance.
